Meet Misa

Hometown: Bangkok, Thailand
Misa Kasamatsu began her dance training at Aree School of Dance Arts in Bangkok, Thailand, where she studied with Long Zhao, former principal dancer at American Repertory Ballet. She also attended summer intensives at the Royal Ballet School, Australian Ballet, Boston Ballet, Miami City Ballet, and the School of American Ballet (SAB), which she also attended on scholarship when she moved to New York City in 2008.

While at SAB, Misa had the opportunity to perform a principal role in an original ballet by Adam Hendrickson, as well as featured roles in ballets such as Who Cares?, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and Les Petits Riens. Misa also participated in projects with SAB’s Student Choreographic Workshop and the New York Choreographic Institute, where she worked with Yuri Smekalov of Mariinsky Theatre and Justin Peck of New York City Ballet.

Misa joined Pennsylvania Ballet as an apprentice for our 2012/2013 season and was promoted to corps de ballet for the 2014/2015 season. She has appeared in ballets including Giselle, Christopher Wheeldon’s Swan Lake, Twyla Tharp’s Push Comes to Shove, Jerome Robbins’ In G Major, William Forsythe’s Artifact Suite, John Butler’s Carmina Burana, and Jiří Kylián’s Forgotten Land (Beige Couple).
