A Message From the Artistic and Executive Directors

We’ve reached the grand finale of our 50th Anniversary Season and what a year it has been. Throughout this milestone season, the Company has presented stellar performances here in Philadelphia, toured to The Kennedy Center and Canada’s National Arts Centre, and appeared in a nationwide broadcast on PBS, Pennsylvania Ballet at 50. The culmination of our remarkable 50th Anniversary Season felt like an appropriate time for change. We have served as the Company’s artistic and executive directors for 19 and 17 years respectively, and separately, we have decided now is the time to explore our next challenges. Over the years, we both have been fortunate to meet wonderful people and establish longlasting friendships. We will always be grateful for these connections and for the amazing support and encouragement we have received from the community. The Board of Trustees is committed to placing the Company in strong and capable hands. As you read this letter, a national and international search is underway for the Company’s next artistic director, and the Board has engaged the services of David Gray, a well-known consultant to arts organizations in need of transitional management, as interim executive director. We both firmly believe that new leadership will mean new ideas, new approaches, and new opportunities for this extraordinary Company. This summer, the Company makes its debut at the Vail International Dance Festival in Colorado and kicks off the FringeArts Festival in Philadelphia with a landmark collaboration with FringeArts and the Curtis Institute of Music. A spectacular 2014-15 Season is planned with four Company premieres, two World Premieres, a tribute to the legendary Jerome Robbins, and the return of Christopher Wheeldon’s magnificent Swan Lake. Our Company is only getting better, and we hope you will join us in watching the greatness to come. On behalf of the dancers and staff of Pennsylvania Ballet, we thank you for attending this performance and for your steadfast and ongoing support of this incredible institution.
With sincere appreciation,
Roy Kaiser
