PBII Choreographic Collaboration

Creating dance for everyone

AT A GLANCE

Years in existence: 4
Organizations served: Saint Katherine’s Special Education School, Overbrook School for the Blind, Center for Creative Works, Philadelphia Senior Center

Philadelphia Ballet believes dance should be accessible to everyone, and that anybody can dance. In this unique partnership program, established in 2016 in collaboration with Art-Reach, dancers from Philadelphia Ballet II, our second company and ambassadors to the community, partner with students from an organization serving the disability community to learn an original choreographed piece.

This collaboration has previously led to in-depth dance study for members of the blind community (Overbrook School for the Blind), and for young adults living with developmental and physical challenges (Saint Katherine’s Special Education School). During these collaborations, dancers from PBII and students from partner organizations come together for a multi-week rehearsal period, creating a new work and ending with an exciting and rewarding performance.

LEARN

Differently-abled individuals are exposed to regular dance classes and rehearsals, learning how to use their bodies in different ways

DANCE
