Whether you’re looking to introduce your child to the world of classical ballet, build upon lessons and techniques already acquired, or just instill in them a love of dance and a true sense of accomplishment, Pennsylvania Ballet has you covered. Our Children’s Summer Program aims to instruct, delight, and inspire—all within a creative and nurturing environment led by a dedicated and passionate staff of ballet professionals. Your children will have the time of their lives, make new friends, and perhaps even learn a little bit about themselves along the way.

Our children’s program has an open enrollment policy, and auditions are not required. But please note: classes fill up quickly and are on a first-come, first-served basis.

(Ages 4-5)

Focusing on the introduction of basic ballet terminology and execution of steps, pre-ballet classes meet once a week. Our experienced, classically trained faculty is passionate about fostering a young dancer’s individuality and sense of self. It is important to us that we create a nurturing environment that supports a dancer’s growth and discovery.

In addition to learning classical ballet basics, students will also be guided through movement exercises used to explore the many ways in which dance can bolster and expand one’s creative expression. Classes touch upon storytelling, teamwork, discipline, and everything from spatial and body awareness to finding a dancer’s emotional connection and translating those feelings into movement.

(Ages 6-7)

With a focus on building the muscular strength and conditioning needed to support proper alignment, primary ballet classes meet twice a week. This program also works to further develop a student’s understanding of the basic principles of classical ballet’s steps and positions (both at the barre and in center) and aims to prepare our young dancers for entry into the school’s intensive program, though without ever losing sight of the sheer joy of dance.

Our faculty seeks to not only teach an exceptional level of classical ballet technique, but also emphasize the importance of passion, heart, and a true love for dance. We hope to stir curiosity, rouse a hunger for learning, and want our young dancers to leave class feeling confident, emboldened, and truly inspired by their remarkable accomplishments.

Ballet, Creative Movement, Arts & Crafts, and a Performance!
(Ages 4-7)

Some camps have canoes. Others involve campfires and nature hikes. Ours, however, calls for magical creatures, enchanted tea parties, and mad-capped adventures through an iconic fantasy world filled with wonder, surprise, and imagination. With classes daily, this is a fun filled and exciting way for your child to spend the week—making new friends (real and imagined), crafting art, creating dance, and bringing the story of Alice in Wonderland to life through magic of ballet!
