Young Dancer Workshop and Company Experience

The School of Pennsylvania Ballet’s summer intensive is followed by two popular and unique programs, running July 31st through August 4th: the Young Dancer Workshop for students ages 11 to 15; and the Company Experience for our advanced pupils and young professionals ages 16 and above. Each program involves a full week of intensive ballet instruction, with younger students focused on improving technical skills and artistic development, while our Company Experience students receive professional training, including classes taught by Pennsylvania Ballet Artistic Director Angel Corella.

Age ranges for these programs are approximate, and the school will place students based on their individual ability levels. As well, students who auditioned for and were accepted into the summer intensive program need not re-audition for the weeklong programs.

Additional Programs Offered

In the weeks following our Company Experience and Young Dancer Workshop, Pennsylvania Ballet is excited to offer additional weeklong programs to round out your summer training. These specialized clinics provide concentrated and memorable ballet instruction for our advanced students.

A WEEK OF COACHING WITH THE PRINCIPALS

August 13th -17th
Ages Approx. 14 & Above (Level 5-Trainee)

Principal dancers of Pennsylvania Ballet are taking over! Join us for an exciting weeklong intensive sure to challenge, motivate, and inspire. This program features a full day of classes, including a half-hour of private instruction on a variation daily from one of our principal dancers. Each day starts at 10:00am with technique class, followed by pointe, men’s class, contemporary, and stretch and strengthen. The last class ends at 4:30pm, and the last coaching session concludes at 5:00pm. On the final day of the program we will hold an in-studio showcase, where students will perform the variation they received coaching on throughout the week. Only 22 spots available!

A WEEK OF CHOREOGRAPHIC EXPLORATION

Ages Approx. 13 & Above (Level 4-Trainee)

Join us for a choreographic workshop with award-winning choreographer and Pennsylvania Ballet company member, Russell Ducker. Having trained with the Royal Ballet School, where students are encouraged to explore the art of choreography at a young age, Mr. Ducker is eager to share his knowledge with students of the School of Pennsylvania Ballet. His aims to create a nurturing environment wherein students feel comfortable exploring choreography. He will challenge students to work on both solo and group work and aims to feature a different theme each day (levels and musicality for example). Each day begins with technique class at 4:30pm, followed by the choreographic exploration workshop from 6:00-8:00pm. The week concludes with an in-studio presentation of what the students have learned.

A WEEK IN THE CORPS DE BALLET

Ages Approx. 13 & Above (Level 4-Trainee)

Learn what it’s like to dance in the corps de ballet! The corps is the foundation of most ballets, and it’s crucial to understand how to work within it. Whether you find your first job as a second company member, an apprentice, or a member of a main company, you will be expected to know the skills required to work with a corps: skills such as staying in a line, breathing together through movement, matching the arm and leg heights of dancers in your section, attention to every detail from head to toe, and learning how to work with your peers towards a common goal. Days begin with technique class at 4:30pm, followed by the corps de ballet workshop from 6:00-8:00pm.
