Sterling Baca

Principal Dancer

Sterling Baca grew up in Larkspur, CO. He began his ballet training at the Academy of Colorado Ballet at age 11 and then studied with German Zamuel.  He has attended five American Ballet Theatre (ABT) summer intensives as a National Training Scholar and Bender Foundation Scholar and enrolled in the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre in 2009 on full-scholarship under the direction of Franco De Vita and Raymond Lukens. He was also an inaugural recipient of the Dizzy Feet Foundation Scholarship.
Mr. Baca Joined ABT II in September 2010. While in ABT II he performed George Balanchine’s Stars and Stripes Pas de Deux, Balanchine’s Allegro Brilliante, Aszure Barton’s Barbara, Jodie Gates’ A Taste of Sweet Velvet, and the world premiere of Jessica Lang’s Vivacce Motifs. He also had lead roles in Jerome Robbins’ Interplay and Antony Tudor’s Continuo.
Mr. Baca joined ABT as an apprentice in May 2011 with roles including Ballroom Von Rothbart and Lead Czardas in Swan Lake, the 2nd Sailor in Fancy Free, Demetrius in The Dream, Paris in Kenneth MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet, The Officer in Gaite Parisienne, The Spanish Dance in Alexei Ratmansky’s The Nutcracker, the Spanish Suitor in The Sleeping Beauty, the Italian Suitor in Alexei Ratmansky's Sleeping Beauty, Stephano in The Tempest, A Carnival Dancer in Othello, and roles in Bach Partita, Brahms Haydn Variations, Company B, Raymonda Divertissements, Duets, and Some Assembly Required. 
Mr. Baca created Prince Fortune and Lilac Fairy Cavalier in Alexei Ratmansky's Sleeping Beauty and leading roles in Liam Scarlett's 'With a Chance of Rain', Mark Morris's 'After You', Marcelo Gomes's Aftereffect, and The Final Frame by Zhong-Jing Fang.
Mr. Baca was chosen for and featured on the cover of Dance Magazine's January 2016 '25 to Watch' issue. Mr. Baca has been featured on Dance 212 Season 4 and 'On a Grass Field' Winner of Best Short Film at the Golden Door Film Festival 2014 in New Jersey.
Mr. Baca joined Pennsylvania Ballet as a Principal Dancer for the 2016/2017 season.
