SPB has been monitoring developments related to COVID-19 and diligently navigating the best course of action regarding our 2020 Summer Intensive and other Summer Programming. In consideration of guidelines from various national authorities coupled with keeping the health and safety of all involved as our primary focus, we have made the difficult decision to transition to virtual, live-class training for all our Summer Programming.  This includes our Summer Intensive, Children’s, and Adult Programs. We are confident that this method is the correct choice for protecting our students and staff during these unprecedented times and are certain that The School of Pennsylvania Ballet can offer virtual instruction that is both challenging and valuable.

Whether you’re looking to introduce your child to the world of classical ballet, build upon lessons and techniques already acquired, or just instill in them a love of dance and a true sense of accomplishment, Pennsylvania Ballet has you covered. Our Children’s Summer Program aims to instruct, delight, and inspire—all within a creative and nurturing environment led by a dedicated and passionate staff of ballet professionals. Your children will have the time of their lives, make new friends, and perhaps even learn a little bit about themselves along the way.

Our children’s program has an open enrollment policy, and auditions are not required. But please note: classes fill up quickly and are on a first-come, first-served basis.

SPB is proud to offer interactive and engaging weekly dance classes via the Zoom platform. Led by our Children’s Program Principal, Jessica Kilpatrick, our classes not only create stability but foster the love of dance and excitement within each child. DANCE WITH ME

Ages 2-3
Saturdays 9:00 – 9:30am

A 6-class series of interactive movement lessons celebrating the bond between child and caregiver as they will both be participating. Together we will move through space, explore our bodies, and practice coordination while gaining strength. In Dance with Me we utilize our ever-expanding imagination to evoke our movement. We use our imaginations to tell stories and express them with our bodies as we dance our way through parks and beaches, magical forests, and castles. We learn about different levels in space, musicality, and diverse movement qualities. At SPB, we aim to enhance the self-esteem and joy of the child. In the Dance with Me classes, the dancers find a little more support with the help of their caregiver.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

Ages 3-4
Saturdays 9:45 – 10:15am

Creative Movement is a dance class that invites the young child to explore their curiosities and joy of movement.  In class, we give space for the child to stretch their voice and embrace creativity.  Ballet basics, classroom structure, co-ordination, spatial awareness, and teamwork are all introduced through class exercises and specially designed movement games. At The School of Pennsylvania Ballet we understand that this can often be a child’s first experience of time without their primary care giver. Our amazing faculty and staff work very hard to ensure that this transition is the best and most successful experience for everyone.

PRE-BALLET

Ages 5-6
Saturdays 10:30 – 11:15am

Pre-Ballet classes are an exciting introduction to Ballet technique. Students will begin work on fine motor skills and ballet vocabulary. Continued use of the imagination along with balance, body alignment, and spatial awareness are a focus.

PRIMARY

Ages 6-8
Mondays 5:15 – 6:00pm, Wednesdays, 5:15 – 6:00pm
* Two Classes per week required

This level is a bridge to our Fundamental levels. Strength, vocabulary, and classroom etiquette are stressed, as well as flexibility and body alignment. Understanding the classical ballet basics as well as linking multiple steps together are being built and practiced.

A fun-filled and exciting way for your child to spend the week making new friends, crafting art, creating dance, and bringing to life the magic of The Nutcracker.  We’ll dance our way through a festive holiday party, march alongside the Nutcracker as he battles the infamous Mouse King, twirl with the dazzling snowflakes, and meet the iconic Sugarplum Fairy, who welcomes all to The Land of Sweets.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND

An enchanting week exploring creative movement and the beginnings of classical ballet, all in the midst of Wonderland. Let try to keep up as the White Rabbit leads us through fields of dancing flowers, an extravagant tea party with the Mad Hatter, an encounter with a tempered queen, and many silly moments with the Cheshire Cat. We’ll fall into Alice’s fantasy world while creating our very own costumes and props, make new friends, and bring this everlasting story to life through dance.
